Sidetracked but Making Progress

Doesn't it feel good to finish what you've started?

I've been slower than molasses on completing this project.  I've primed, painted and distressed my frame and am very happy with how it turned out.  Hopefully this week I will finish making it into a chalkboard.  See the original frame here.

At least to start I think it will rest on the mantle.

It is a happy accident that my "new" frame matches the other distressed frames in the room perfectly.

This picture has the best worn out really wide frame on it.  It has big holes and a really rough texture.  I think it makes the art itself more interesting.  One of the wooden buildings is the Little Stone Church on Mackinac Island.

I like to use books for added height and for extra color.  The mercury glass holder in lavender is a little fun.  There is actually a sparkly green striped holder sitting next to it.  When I get my camera to operate again I will swap the picture to include it!

I also finished my handwarmers a couple of weeks ago.  Just in time for the warm weather!  I'm just happy to have them ready for next year.  Now I'm on to my next knitting project and this one may take awhile!

Have fun tying up your loose ends!

  2. Lyn, You know, I love that chunky frame on your mantel so much...one of these days I might just decide to find a way to distract your attention so I can steal it away!! I can't wait to see the chalkboard all assembled. It's going to look fantastic up there.

  5. Hello!

Thank you to everyone for your comments. I'm so glad that you are reading and hopefully enjoying! Happily I had the answer to Angela's question sitting right under my desk. At first I was wondering where I put those paint swatches! The paint on our great room walls is from Benjamin Moore and is color 715 - in your eyes. It is the lightest on the sample but really comes out a nice pale blue. Angela, thank you so much for asking!

    Have a great day!

  7. I picked up my candlesticks at a store I loved called Upscale Vintage. It was filled to the brim with the best treasures and painted furniture. Sadly with the Michigan economy the way it is they have closed their doors. I have some pictures of the store, but I didn't store them correctly so if I figure out how to change that I will be sure to share. The candlesticks are actually concrete corbels and they are all banged up - the paint is all chipping off. It looks like there was a light gray coat of paint on top of the concrete and then someone painted them the deep aqua. I loved them and figured I would find some way to use them. I put them on my mantle and then candles seemed like the right choice. Thank you so much for asking about them and I'm glad you like them. I've brought home more than a few banged up items that I receive funny looks for, but then my friends and family are like where did you get that or I like that and then I know just to follow my instincts. When I share my office I have some more of those kinds of finds there. Sorry so long!
