Josh's school just held their Holiday Bazaar. It includes a craft show and then many activities for the kids. It's really a nod to the school fair of the past. There is a cakewalk, storytelling, silk scarf dying, wool felting, and jump rope making among other activities. The jump ropes were functional and really stunning! They also had a pocket lady. For a ticket you can choose a mystery gift from one of her pockets. Gifts like marbles, wooden yo-yo's, knitted birds, just really unique items. Lunch was so fresh and well thought out - I had a plate that included hummus, pita, wheat berry romaine salad, and a red and yellow pepper salad. Also, sweet potato fries with mustard aioli sauce on the side. Yum! Everything they offered was homemade and delicious. While you enjoyed your food you were entertained with live music. All and all, it is a very well executed event. His school is truly amazing and unique. If you ever think that the school your child is in might not be for them follow your instinct and make the change. He started at this school last year (6th grade) and it has been more than a positive experience.
O.K. - where do the cookies come in - I volunteered to make a few things for the bake sale and didn't have a lot of spare time. This is my go to cookie when I want something delicious without spending hours in the kitchen. It is from Katie Brown's Outdoor Entertaining Cookbook which is one of my very favorite cookbooks. Everything I have tried from this book has been so-ooo good!
Billy Goat Cookies
(When my boy's want them they ask for "The Kitchen Sink Cookies"

1/2 c. Reese's peanut butter chips
Preheat oven as directed on cookie mix package. Grease 2 cookie sheets.
Make cookie dough according to package instructions. Fold in walnuts, coconut, white chocolate chips, and peanut butter chips.
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls an inch apart onto cookie sheets and bake according to package directions.
