Did your mom ever make you Jello water when you were feeling ill?
When I was growing up Jello water was sure to make an appearance when we had nausea and upset stomachs. There may be no truth in it's helpfulness at all, but it really does make you feel a little bit better - maybe because it tastes so good! Noah got food poisoning Saturday so we made Strawberry. Poor little man is still hurting a bit today.
You can make the water any flavor you choose. Follow the package directions - boil half of the water, pour over gelatin, stir until dissolved, add other half of water lukewarm ( I use lukewarm - you don't want it to turn into Jello). I make it right in my pitcher and leave it out on the counter. If you put it in the fridge it will become firm and undrinkable.
When you pass by the kitchen and see the pitcher it makes you at least a little bit happy that you get to have the special drink!
That is so sweet, I love this idea! I hope he's on the mend!
ReplyDeletei have never heard of jello water, but im so glad to find out about it!
ReplyDeleteOh no, poor Noah!! I hope he is feeling better very soon!
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm a jello water girl! I'm a big fan of orange and I like it warm.....especially when I have a sore throat!! My husband thought I had totally lost it the first time he saw me drinking jello!! His mom didn't do the jello water thing.
Hoping your little guy is better soon!
Hugs

ReplyDeleteNice Tuesday.
Poor guy! I've never heard of jello water and will have to try it. My little one likes the traditional jello so I'm sure the water will be a winner in my house.

Jello Water - now that's new to me but how could a little one not love that?! Sad, though, about your little guy!
ReplyDeleteAnd you do look a little like DM!!! What fun! xoxo
My only concern with this is giving anything red to a sick child. O.o
ReplyDeleteI myself drink it when I want to "diet" -- leaves me just as satisfied as soda, if not more so. Not sure calorie wise where it is - but it helps me kick the soda/caffeine for a bit without losing my mind. I LOVE pineapple.
It doesn't have to be red. it can be any flavor/color
DeleteMy mom used to give it to us when we were kids. As an adult, I stuck to water and saltines. I'm 40. That makes me very smart, right?
ReplyDeleteBut then I got the Norovirus from my mom's nursing home and hoooo boy, that is one mean dude! I couldn't keep ANYTHING down (or in, because that was a problem also). A mere drop of water dispersed in my mouth without swallowing made me so nauseated I lost the will to live. 😉
Then my sweet dad made me jello water (I think he wanted me off his couch and back into that nursing home), and I didn't have the heart to tell him that it would never work because nothing would. But then it DID!
Just like that, I was keeping sips down. Then full gulps, later another glass. I swear that stuff brought me back from the dead. I tried drinking Gatorade after that, but noooope. Back to the jellow water until I could handle real water and saltines.
It's fo' real, peeps!
I've just made some for myself. Ihave been so very sick since this past Friday. Nothing has stayed in or down

ReplyDeleteI was just told about this for my strep throat. I was told it will help take away some of the pain. Going to give it a try after work.
ReplyDeleteMy great grandmother made it for me and I have made for my kids, it always works.
ReplyDeleteBefore pedilite, .we had Jello water,. When my son was 11monthes old he dehydrated and was in Cooks Children's hospital. Jello water is all they would let him have. Trying on my sick puppy.
ReplyDeleteIn 1975 my pediatrician also told me the same thing when my son was very sick. Was glad to know about that! :) ;)
